We are thrilled to announce the addition of Scott Ellis as our new Director of Development. As many of you may know, Allie Schachter, our current Director of Development, is joining her family in Boston in mid-August as her partner continues his education. Allie has been with Ozone House for nine years and will be missed.

Scott comes to us from Seattle, where he worked for World Relief Seattle for nine years . At World R elief, Scott engaged the local community to use their time, talents, and resources to help empower refugees, asylees, and immigrants for success as they resettled in Washington State. As a graduate of the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies, he engaged the local and global community to see refugees living in Washington State empowered economically, practically and socially.

Scott moved back to Michigan to be closer to his partner's family now that they are the proud parents of a young child. We are excited for you to meet him!
All Ozone House staff participated in DEI - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - workshops on May 17th and June 21st. The facilitators from U of M offered guidelines for authentic engagement and shared some foundational language. The majority of the time was spent reflecting and dialoging around our social identities.

  • Speakout also performed "Voices of Ozone" at the EMU School of Social Work Annual Continuing Education Event on May 22nd. Members then supported table group discussions around the challenges of youth homelessness and what social workers and community members can do to support young people in crisis.

  • Ozone House was well represented, by both staff and PrideZone participants, at Ypsi Pride on June 7th. We also joined Cultivate Coffee and Tap House in their beer tent as they supported Ozone House.

  • On May 20th, the Office of Community & Economic Development hosted a community debrief on this year's Point-In-Time Count for Washtenaw County. Executive Director Krista Girty was a panelist at the event and spoke about the uniqueness of youth homelessness as well as the current state of youth homelessness in Washtenaw County.

  • 17 people completed crisis line training in May. Congratulations to our new volunteers, new staff, and interns!

  • WorkZone completed another successful session with several young people at the end of June.

  • Ozone House is partnering with the Ypsilanti DDA as youth ambassadors. Our staff member, Jessica, and four young WorkZone graduates are busy educating business owners about DDA resources, building relationships, and identifying improvements in public spaces in the community. They are working four afternoons a week through the summer.

  • Ozone House hosted 19 enthusiastic, energetic and smart cadets participating in the 2019 Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Junior Police Academy, JPA, on July 3rd. The group visited both our Drop-In Center and our Emergency Shelter. We were happy to see all the young smiling faces from the community.

  • Ozone House is teaming up with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department on August 1st to distribute backpacks to the community.

  • Noise Permit is August 2nd. Noise Permit is a celebration of the arts, planned and performed by Ypsilanti teens! Enjoy music, poetry, a community art project, food, and more! All ages are welcome to attend. This activity is with the Ypsilanti District Library.
