Introducing... the Blanket Fort Badge

Ready for a one-time special badge?

We can't currently print out badge sheets and so on, but that doesn't mean that we can't run a new badge program*!

For those of you who know the drill and want to jump right in, here are the requirements:

Reading component:

This badge's theme is Books That Give You Comfort . If that means reading books about pandemics because information and facts make you feel safe, go for it! If that means re-reading books you've read a million times, go for it! If that means reading romance or mystery, memoirs by NASCAR drivers or biographies of marathon runners, a history of science fiction or the 25th anniversary book about Days of Our Lives , go for it!

We'll be posting our Blanket Fort Reads on the library's new Instagram feed—follow along here —and we encourage you to do the same, using the hashtag #blanketfortreads.

Reading Requirement:

Pre-readers: Five books

Independent readers: Three books

Project component:

Similarly, the projects will center around doing things that give us comfort and doing things that give OTHER people comfort. I'll be sending out ideas on all of the library's regular working days—so, Tuesday through Saturday.

Project requirement:

Three projects

*Actual badge to be unveiled once we're back up and running. (In other words, I haven't designed it yet!)

Community Library Badges

We've offered Merit Badges at the Community Library for years now—we have some available in the summer, some in the winter, and a few very special ones that are available all year long.

Each badge is earned through a combination of reading and project-doing, and for each badge earned, we add a book to the collection in the badge-earner's name. And yes, adults, this is an all-ages program!

Today's Project Idea

Reach out to someone that you miss:

Write them a letter or an email or make them a card, FaceTime them or call.

If you're concerned about sending germs through the mail, take a picture of your physical letter—it's always nice to see each other's actual handwriting, isn't it?—and send it to them digitally.

The AARP has suspended service at all Tax Aide Locations until further notice—that includes the library.

I have heard rumor of them offering service from a centralized location, but currently, my advice would be to reach out directly to them with questions.
