Have you checked out On-Farm?
|
"On-Farm: Conversations with Practical Farmers" is a
new podcast from Practical Farmers
of Iowa. Each week, we'll interview a different PFI member about his or her farm. We'll hear from all kinds of farmers: new and experienced; young and old; small
and large; horticulture, livestock and row crop farmers. And we'll talk with farmers about the issues most relevant to farmers: the nitty-gritty of growing and raising crops and animals; on-farm research; protecting and improving soil and water quality; farm profitability; the challenges facing beginning farmers; building community in rural areas; and of course, food.
Beginning farmer,
T.D. Holub of Garden Oasis Farm was our guest last week on "On-Farm." We talk to T.D. about his upcoming field day on June 9, "Tractors and Tools with T.D.," focusing on some of the machinery he uses for vegetable production.
We also talk about whole food and health, selling "weird" vegetables and coming back to the family farm.

At the end of this guide you will find a list of other sources of information about contracting, including the USDA website, which may help you decide whether contracting makes sense for you and your business.
Pasture and Grazing Arrangements for Beef Cattle,
a two-page fact sheet from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, outlines considerations for both landowners and renters when negotiating yearly or long-term grazing-land leases. It provides an overview of four common types of arrangements, along with suggestions on how to structure agreements for the benefit of both parties.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has published an online
Introduction to High Tunnels
(HORT 3070) course for producers interested in high tunnel production. The course includes five modules designed to assist producers with the decision of whether or not to construct a high tunnel on a farm.
