Let's talk funds a minute.

Imagine a church where everyone coming on Sunday morning is jobless and has nothing to give to support the ministers working there. CCF is like that because college students are like that.

So where does the money come from? By far, the biggest piece of CCF’s financial pie comes from alumni, who contribute 4x more than any other category.

What this essentially means is that the ministers are being paid by the folks who no longer worship there.

What a pickle.

But also what a blessing that CCF has lots of alumni!

How many exactly? Since I came on staff in 2008, that number is very conservatively over 1,000. (Imagine how many more from the decades before that!) But over the last two years, at most 10% of those alumni have made financial contributions to the general fund.

We need this number to be higher because of our two ongoing financial challenges:

  1. Our monthly budgeted need routinely goes unmet. (This year we are averaging a shortfall of $5,500 each month.)

  1. Our monthly budgeted need is insufficient for where we want staff salaries to be in the future.

Year over year, things work out because of timely, generous, one-time gifts, especially in December. But while they will always be extremely valuable to us, heavily relying on occasional financial gifts make it challenging to responsibly and reliably plan for the future, especially when it comes to staff salaries.

To both cover our current regular shortfall and increase our financial floor for the future, today kicks off our weeklong fundraising campaign:

OUR GOAL:

1) to increase monthly income by $10,000

2) by finding at least 60 partners who will increase (even from zero!) their monthly contribution to the CCF general fund by $100, $200, $500, or more.

You can join the effort even if you’re not currently giving to CCF — we’d love to get as many new partners as possible!

What’s the money for? We’re not trying to buy laser lights and smoke machines; the main purpose for this increase is to be able to pay our staff better. As director, my conviction and hope is simple: to be able to pay the staff in a manner that honors dignity and sustainability, allowing us to keep high-quality staff around for years to come.

So, here’s how this week will go:

We’ll be in touch with you once each day this week. From Tuesday to Thursday we’ll show you three videos:

Tuesday — remembering CCF’s past

Wednesday — showing CCF’s present

Thursday — imagining CCF’s future

Then we’ll wrap it all up on Friday by highlighting how valuable our staff are and have always been.

Thank you so much for joining us. And please, share this with the alum you were in CCF with, and we’ll make it happen together.

To the hilt,

Reed

JOIN THE CAMPAIGN

Ready to help us reach our goal? Great! Here’s what we need you to do:

1) Pick out a level below that you’d like to increase your contribution by.

† If none of these is doable for you but you still want to give, we’d love it if you pitched in on the Recent Alumni Special, increasing your gift by $50/month.

‡ If you’d like to make your recurring gift annually, if you’d like to increase by more than $500 monthly, or if you’d like to financially help CCF in some other way, please contact me directly. I’d love to chat with you about it!

2) Head to www.ccftruman.org/partner and set up your new, increased monthly gift in the appropriate amount. If you are giving for the first time, creating your account is easy. Just click “sign in” at the top of the giving module and follow the instructions. Be sure to check the General Fund box and select the Ongoing option. If you have any issues at all, please email Nate Komar at ntkomar12@gmail.com and he’ll be happy to assist you.

3) Finally, share this with your old CCF crew, even if you think they might be getting these messages directly. Get in touch with them, reminisce a bit about your time together at CCF, and maybe ask them to join you as you give. CCF has always been about doing things together and this campaign is no different.

Thank you so much for all the ways you’re helping to make this campaign a success. We’re so grateful for all of it.
