I'm Z Baird and this year I celebrate my 10th Anniversary as Branch Administrator. So much as happened in those years. The most important accomplishment has been working with Crestwood and greater Yonkers to improve literacy from toddlers to teens to seniors. I'm committed to continue our relationship of connecting with each other whether you've lived here for years or just moved in. Stop by and say Hi!

Colum McCann is the Dublin-born author of thirteen books. His novel, Let the Great World Spin, won the 2009 National Book Award (U.S.) for Fiction, the 2011 International Dublin Literary Award and was a New York Times bestseller. His short film, Everything in this Country Must, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005.

On May 6, McCann will give an author talk followed by a Q&A. He'll discuss his work, his creative process and the role of literature in shaping individuals and communities. If you have a book by McCann, he’ll sign it. (No books will be sold at event.) The event offers a unique opportunity to engage with a distinguished literary voice while honoring the Crestwood library’s longstanding place at the heart of the community.

In addition to his acclaimed published works, McCann is the co-founder of Narrative 4, a global non-profit organization providing storytelling to build community engagement in schools. Crestwood Library has established mutual partnerships with local schools, including School 15, and provides library resources for the benefit of students and the community. McCann’s author talk is a wonderful opportunity to become involved with the Crestwood Library Centennial Cultural Series.

The Crestwood Library was founded by a vibrant and determined group of women in the 1920s. Three decades later an equally resolute coterie of neighbors established a Friends’ organization to carry on the work of the initial founders.
