There has recently been coverage online about Hybrid Closed Loop insulin pumps, including in the feature on artificial (or bionic) insulin pumps in the last issue of the Desang Diabetes Magazine. The future certainly looks interesting. This e-bulletin is about one of the technologies being used as part of the development of an artificial pancreas.

What is SmartGuard?
SmartGuard, which is trade marked, is a unique function of CGM built into the latest Medtronic insulin pump, the MiniMed 640G. With SmartGuard switched on, the insulin pum p will automatically stop insulin delivery when sensor glucose is predicted to approach a low limit. It will resume when the sensor glucose rises again. This really is advanced protection from hypos. Click on the image below to find out more.
