Dear Community Members:
Merrymeeting has prided itself in offering high-value, affordable community education courses over the years. During that time, we have focused on adult and young adult programming. In the past few years, Merrymeeting has felt that as a community education entity, we could do even more for our residents. Towards that end, we have decided to offer youth programming for the summer of 2022. We are doing this to complement the current youth programming going on in the various communities we work in, and we hope to be able to provide the same high-quality, affordable programming you have all come to expect from us. This is a new venture for us. Please be patient as we work through the challenges of providing new programming.
Thanks again for your continued support.

Merrymeeting instructor collaborates on Fall '21 event for New Mainers with Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust
|
Along with Lydia Coburn, the Communications Coordinator and Outreach Assistant for the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, Kelli Park, an ELL (English Language Learner) instructor with Merrymeeting Adult Education, organized this community-building effort for New Mainers last Fall '21. There were 50 people who participated in the festivities where many shared dishes from their native countries.
"The Harvest Heritage Dinner in October was more than just a dinner, it was a symbol of things to come for our increasingly diverse community in Midcoast Maine. The dinner featured recipes from all over the world and showed that being part of a thriving, welcoming community extends far beyond the geographic boundaries of our local towns and into the far reaches of the world. This collaborative community event was an example of the things that individuals can accomplish when they come together with an idea: to find ways to cultivate connections among individuals from all walks of life to promote a thriving multicultural community.
I was thrilled to be part of this event and I was excited to see that we had fifty people of all ages in attendance, with family recipes from all over the world - sharing experiences, creating connections, and expanding their palettes, while laughing, learning, and shaping the community that we live in. My goal is to continue to facilitate collaborative programming with active participation from my English language students, whose voice is invaluable to us as we navigate our changing community. My hope is that this is just the beginning."
Kelli Park has been an ELL instructor with Merrymeeting Adult Education since November 2020. Many of the New Mainers who participated in this event are current and former students of Kelli.

All of the best stories have one thing in common, the writer is able to bring to life in the mind of the reader, a world that has only ever existed in their imagination. It doesnβt matter if you are writing short stories or full-length novels, learning the skill of creative worldbuilding can turn a run-of-the-mill story into a work of literary art.
