Introducing Mount Peak Wine

Yiannis has gone out and found you a hidden gem from Sonoma.  Three Big Bold Reds from Mount Peak Winery.
These Wine's have Big Scores and Big Flavors, just like we know you love!

The story of Mount Peak Winery begins more than a century ago at the celebrated Monte Rosso Vineyard and culminates with the recent revival of the brand by Gallo. A vestige of one of California's great "ghost" wineries, the wines are a tribute to the extraordinary facility that once stood there. Originally built in 1886, Mount Peak was a marvel of innovation with its three-story, gravity-flow system built from rock directly sourced from the dry-farmed Monte Rosso vineyard. While it ultimately emerged as one of California's top producers, it was closed during Prohibition and left abandoned to the elements, laying silent for decades. Over 130 years later, Gallo has revived the site and the vineyard, perched at nearly 1,300 feet along the spine of the Mayacamas Mountains, straddling the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. The steep hillsides are set against a dramatic backdrop and the new Mount Peak label will focus on Cabernet, Zinfandel, and a red blend from the original Monte Rosso fruit.

Rattlesnake 2014 Zinfandel

RP 92
The Wine Advocate

Take, for example, the 2014 Zinfandel Rattlesnake, a blend of 96% Zinfandel and 4% Petite Sirah with 85% from the Monte Rosso Vineyard and the balance from other Gallo vineyards. It is aged in all French oak, of which 23% is new. A whopper at 16% natural alcohol, the wine has classic Zinfandel characteristics of Provençal spices, roasted herbs, pepper and oodles of briary black raspberry and black cherry fruit. It cuts a big swath across the palate with loads of glycerin and an unctuous, thick, juicy quality that is provocative. The wine is rich, ripe and ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years. 5,000+ cases were produced.

Gravity 2014 Red Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Even better is the incredible 2014 Proprietary Red Blend Gravity, which is an intriguing blend of 33% Petite Sirah, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Zinfandel and the rest Syrah, Grenache and Barbera aged in 28% new French oak. Virtually all of it comes from the Monte Rosso Vineyard with tiny quantities from Frei Ranch and Snows Lake vineyards owned by Gallo. Another exuberant whopper at 15.9% alcohol, the wine is an opaque purple color, with notes of pen ink, creosote, black truffle, blackberry, blueberry, and a hint of white chocolate in a full-bodied, massive, layered, rich and concentrated style. Interesting enough, the alcohol at 15.9% is balanced by the wine's rather zesty acidity and modest pH of 3.46. This is a killer wine at a great price for something this profound. 5,000 cases were produced (RP)

Sentinel 2014 Cabernet

WW 95

Sourced primarily from the historically acclaimed Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma County, the 2014 Mount Peak Sentinel Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits an outstanding aroma of bright blueberries and wild blackberries. The wine, accented with a beautiful mix of oak nuances, is greater than the sum of its parts. Pair it with a slice of rare roast beef and enjoy a complete food and wine experience.
