This past Sunday, August 21st, the Cinema Arts Centre held our annual garden party in recognition of our Circle of Friends. It was a beautiful day and a lively celebration of our supporters who have been such an essential part of what keeps the Cinema going.
This was the first gathering at the cinema in several years for many of our volunteers and supporters. Although the garden party is an annual event, we were unable to meet during our closure in 2020 and 2021. Being able to come together and celebrate the contributions of our community was a moving experience for everyone involved.
A delicious buffet brunch was provided, featuring contributions generously donated by Best Bagel A Round, IHOP Huntington, Munday’s, New York Panini, Southdown Marketplace, and Wild By Nature. Drinks were provided by Bottles and Cases, and floral arrangements from Amy’s of Huntington brightened the space beautifully.
Throughout the event, the talented Skyla Budd provided harp music to set the mood. That delightful music was courtesy of CAC Board of Directors member Jude Schanzer. Jude recently joined long-time board member Steve Rubin as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. Steve and Shelley Rubin, along with the Alpern Family Foundation, are major contributors to the annual Vic Skolnick Life of Our Cinema Campaign.
Remarks were made by several local elected officials, including Town of Huntington Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman, Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly, and a representative of Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi. All were emphatic in their support for the Cinema and the contributions that the CAC makes to the community.
Finally, Cinema Arts Centre Co-Directors Charlotte Sky and Dylan Skolnick thanked our sponsors, our Circle of Friends volunteers, and our Board of Directors, as well as everyone else who has helped make the Cinema what it is. The garden party couldn’t have come together without everyone whose contributions made such an impact; moreover, the Cinema Arts Centre wouldn’t be able to thrive without that support. We’re so lucky to have such a fantastic, supportive community.
