message from the president
Welcome to SRQ-FAWL 2019-20! Things are back in high gear for our chapter and new board. We are very excited to kick off a new year with some great networking/social opportunities where we can build relationships and get to know each other better throughout the year. We are also excited to introduce our theme for the 2019-20 year which reflects our chapter's intention to build strong relationships, encourage mentorship, and promote our members into leadership roles within the community. To that end, we are proud to support our President-Elect, Stephanie Murphy, who recently threw her hat into the ring to be considered for the newly created 12th Judicial Circuit judge position. FAWL encourages and supports women lawyers like Stephanie as they pursue leadership positions in the Bar, our community, and on the bench.* On behalf of our chapter, I look forward to getting to know each of you better this year. See you on September 19th (see below)!!

2019-20 Chapter Theme
Lifting as We Rise
Sarasota FAWL’S theme for this year is “Lifting As We Rise.”  The FAWL organization generally, and our Sarasota chapter specifically, endeavors to provide support and resources to our members. Consistent with our new theme, please take a moment to consider opportunities to promote and support fellow members. For example, candidates for the upcoming 2020 Florida Super Lawyers must be nominated by fellow peers by October 4, 2019 .

Take a look at our Membership Directory and consider nominating at least one fellow FAWL member for this award!
Please send nomination suggestions for other organizations, committees, or awards to Marjorie Chalfant, RN, JD at .

Stephanie L. Murphy, Esq.
Stephanie was born and raised in Polk County, Florida, and attended Lake Wales Senior High School. Long before beginning law school, she endeavored to help people and be a problem-solver. As the youngest of six children, the daughter of a citrus grower and school teacher, she was encouraged to pursue her dreams.

Stephanie graduated from Stetson Law School in 2001, and for the last 17 years, her practice has been focused on family law - particularly cases involving high-conflict matters, multiple issues, and/or complex subjects.

Since 2008, Stephanie has had her own boutique practice law firm, Murphy Law Group , with her husband, Kevin Murphy. Stephanie lectures frequently on family law matters, including “Divorce in Florida” lecture for the annual seminar for the Southwest Florida Paralegal Association, and “Support Under the I-864 Affidavit: The Who, What, When, Where and Whys for Family Law Practitioners” for the Family Law Section of the Sarasota Bar Association. Stephanie’s article entitled, “The Couple’s Contract” was published by SRQ Magazine in February 2013. In addition, Stephanie has served two terms on the Florida Supreme Court’s Mediator Qualifications Discipline and Review Board.
