Dear Community Members,
Before I launch into the update I've been eager to share, let's talk about the emails you might be receiving from libraries across Minuteman asking you to return those materials we told you not to worry about back in March. Please do not be alarmed! As Minuteman libraries started coming back online, automatically-generated reminders resumed. Please know all Minuteman locations are continuing to waive late fees at least through the end of June, if not longer. In Somerville, for example, we have extended the due date to August 31, 2020.
Now the exciting news - contactless pickup is on its way!
Beginning next Monday, July 6, you will be able to not only pickup all those holds that have been ready for pick-up since mid-March, but also request Somerville library materials and schedule a pickup time at all Somerville Library locations.
With your library card, you will be able to place holds on Somerville-owned library materials online through the Minuteman Library Network. You will then be notified by either email or telephone when the materials are ready to be picked up. Pickup appointments are scheduled using an online appointment system.
We will also have librarians available to assist you by telephone at 617-623-5000.
Materials will have due dates, but we will not collect fines on late returns while our buildings remain closed to the public.
Our book drops will continue to be open at both the Central and East Branch locations for returns. Materials may be returned to West at TAB during pickup hours only.
Pickup hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm and 2:15pm-5:30pm, and Saturdays from 9:30am-12:30pm.
All patrons are required to wear masks when picking up materials at the Library.
Thank you for you patience as we worked towards offering this next step in restoring library services. We are thrilled to be back in our buildings, and to be getting materials back in your hands!
