Introducing Sue Krummel

The Personnel Committee, the Gap Council, and the Gap Trustees are very excited to share the news that teaching elder Sue Krummel will begin serving as the Gap Leader Consultant for the Presbytery of the Coastlands beginning September 6, 2022. Sue will be working with the presbytery on a part-time basis while the co-leader search committee continues its work over the next few months. Sue comes to us with incredible experience in mid-council leadership and we are very grateful for the opportunity to benefit from her wisdom and perspective as we continue to birth our new life together as a presbytery. Our moderator, vice-moderator, and the personnel committee will work closely with Sue to establish the priorities and strategy of the best use of her time serving the presbytery. Please take the time to learn a bit about Sue from her biography, below.

Sue Krummel is a retired minister member of Great Rivers Presbytery in Central Illinois. She retired as the Executive Presbyter of Chicago Presbytery at the end of 2021 after 42 years of ministry. About half of that time she was a parish pastor serving as co-pastor with her husband, as supply pastor, interim head of staff, interim associate pastor--almost any pastoral relationship with a congregation that is possible under the Book of Order. The other half of the time she served as Stated Clerk at all three levels of the church (an associate at the GA level) and as Executive Presbyter in two different presbyteries. Since retirement she has done two short term stints as gap leader in two different presbyteries. She is also active as a volunteer with vaccine clinics; a community theater; and an organization that distributes books to all of the elementary students in her city.

Sue lives in her hometown of Peoria, Illinois, with her husband Forrest (Frosty) and their two cats. Her adult daughters both have doctorates in education and her six grandchildren keep their teachers, parents and grandparents busy with the usual activities of people in fifth, sixth(a set of twins there), eighth, ninth and eleventh grade. Sue enjoys puzzles of all kinds, gardening and after the recent addition of a little cabin to their lives, she has discovered the joy of catching bluegills with her grandchildren and then throwing them back (the fish, not the grandchildren.)

She is looking forward to spending time with Coastlands Presbytery as it continues to discover its identity and renews its call to bring hope in the name of Jesus.
