COUNCIL MEMBER AMANDA K. EDWARDS LEADING THE CITY OF HOUSTON 
WOMEN AND MINORITY-OWNED BUSINESS TASK FORCE TO ASSIST 
SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS IN GAINING ACCESS TO CAPITAL AND MORE

The City of Houston Women and Minority-Owned Business Task Force, comprised of approximately 50 women and minority business owners, Chambers of Commerce, and leaders in the financial industry, seeks to make Houston not just the most diverse city in the nation, but also the place where challenges faced by diverse communities are solved. The Task Force, initiated and led by Council Member Amanda K. Edwards, hosted its kick-off meeting on February 27, 2019, at City Hall.

Women and minority business owners all over the nation face barriers to gaining access to capital. As a result, Council Member Edwards proffered a budget amendment, which was unanimously passed by City Council during the Fiscal Year 2019 budget cycle, to create The City of Houston Women and Minority-Owned Business Task Force. The Task Force is charged with providing recommendations regarding (1) how to increase access to capital for women and minority owned- businesses and (2) how to assist these business owners in scaling up their businesses.

The City of Houston Women and Minority-Owned Business Task Force will not only help make recommendations, but will also examine how to foster an atmosphere of growth for women and minority businesses in Houston.

The following Chambers of Commerce have been invited to serve on The City of Houston Women and Minority Owned Business Task Force: Acres Home Chamber for Business & Economic Development, Asian Chamber of Commerce, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce, South Asian Chamber of Commerce, Pakistan Chamber of Commerce Korean American Chamber of Commerce, National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce, Greater Houston Partnership, Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce, The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, Fifth Ward Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian American Chamber of Commerce.
