Help Us Defy Cavities during Long Beach Gives
| |
Everyone deserves a healthy smile, and you can help us make that possible for more of the children who need it most when you support us during Long Beach Gives!
We hope you’ll join us in making the seventh annual, city-wide day of giving a huge success - while strengthening our community together - on Thursday, September 18. Early giving begins on Thursday, September 11!
Visit longbeachgives.org/cdhc to learn more, and mark your calendar. We will be sharing more leading up to and through the campaign, including some of the many ways we make a difference in the community while giving local children and families the comprehensive, compassionate, and quality dental care everyone deserves!
| | | Big Smiles at City of Paramount’s Back to School Giveaway | | We love working with the City of Paramount, so their Back to School Giveaway event is one of the highlights of our year! See for yourself in this video featuring the day’s oral health Q&A, dental kit distribution, teeth brushing practice and SO MANY big smiles, including the ones from our Executive Director/Dental Director Dr. Mackenzie Martin, DDS, and our Early Intervention and Outreach Manager Jean Petrillo, RDH! | | Welcoming New Interns from Cerritos College | |
July 31 was National Intern Day, and earlier that same week, we welcomed a new class of interns from the Cerritos College Dental Hygiene Program! The second year students are the latest group to join us on a clinical rotation, and they were given a warm welcome and introduction by our team when they joined us for their orientation.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience in our clinic, they also support our Kindergarten Festival, which includes dental education and screenings for the Long Beach Unified School District. We are so grateful to help them learn and grow as they help us change lives, one smile at a time!

If you follow us on social media, you may have seen how a new face represented us at this year’s Long Beach Gives Summit. Liz Reinhardt, our new Director of Advancement (pictured second from left in the top left photo), was part of the Successful Campaign Fundraising panel at the Summit alongside our friends Candice Wood of the MemorialCare Foundation and Lorraine Lyou of The Guidance Center.
Liz brings more than two decades of experience in marketing, communications, fund development and community engagement to her role. Most recently, she served as Director of Development for the Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) in San Pedro and their Long Beach division, the Children’s Maritime Institute. Liz grew up on the Peninsula and volunteered at Torrance Memorial Medical Center during high school. She then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she also studied Theatrical Design. She recently returned to Torrance Memorial this past spring when she participated in their Manager Certificate Program as a community partner, and she is excited to join an organization with such an impressive history of helping the community alongside another local medical center.

We also welcomed four new USC Pediatric Dental Residents, and they’ve already proven themselves to be valuable additions to our team. Here they are with Dr. Khoa Le, DMD, Director of the Pediatric Dental Residency Program (center) - from left to right:

| | Saying Goodbye to Dr. Shivani | |
After five years of bringing big smiles to the clinic - including her own - we said goodbye to Dr. Shivani Keshav, DDS. Dr. Shivani began her journey with us as a USC Pediatric Dental Resident in 2019. Like many who come through the Clinic, she experienced the magic that exists within our walls - the magic that shapes the experiences of our staff members, residents, interns, volunteers, and most importantly, our patients.
After completing her residency, she continued working with us as an Attending Pediatric Dentist twice a month, helping to mentor the Pediatric Dental Residents who came after her as they gained hands-on experience performing full-mouth dental rehabilitation - just like she once did. As she gets married this fall and relocates to the Midwest, Dr. Shivani is off on her next adventure, and she will be greatly missed by all of us here at the Clinic!
