Dear Scouters,
Following a rigorous national search process, Greater Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Kurkjian as Scout Executive and CEO, effective February 1, 2023.
For the past almost 11-years, Kurkjian has been an executive with the United Service Organizations (USO) where for the last three years he has served as the President of the Western Region. There he led a team of 70+ professionals and over 2,000 volunteers at 27 locations spread across the nine Western states. For eight years prior to that, he was the President and CEO of the Bob Hope USO. During his tenure in that role, his leadership resulted in a ten-fold increase in fundraising, a doubling of the volunteer corps and program delivery expansion across an eight-county geography. Kurkjian concurrently serves our country as a decorated officer in the Navy Reserve and is a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. He currently commands a 350-sailor expeditionary logistics battalion stationed at Naval Base Ventura County.
Lauded for his track record of fundraising and volunteer management, he also has extensive experience with change management and successfully leading organizations through pivotal transitions. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Southern California and an additional master’s degree from the United States Naval War College, where he graduated with distinction.

We look forward to forming a strong working relationship that will advance our mission to prepare young people to live confident, capable, complete, and compassionate lives through Scouting.”

Kurkjian resides in Long Beach with his wife and two children—including one very proud Cub Scout.
