GET INVOLVED AND ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE WATER SECTOR

The BCWWA is always looking for members who are dedicated to their work in the water sector and are willing to get more involved. We are currently seeking four (4) volunteers for the 2023 Student Design Competition Committee (SDC). Learn more about the SDC and this volunteer opportunity. More volunteer opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks.

CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS OF THE 2022 BCWWA STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION

This year's BCWWA Student Design Competition (SDC) award goes to Team Waternauts from the University of British Columbia! The team is comprised of Parsa Mivehchi (team leader), Ben Alberga, Caelan Accili, Ramzi Hijazi, and Mohamed El Badrawy. As the representing team from BC/Yukon, the students will present their design solution at the Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 8-12, 2022. Best of luck to Team Waternauts in the upcoming competition!

About the BCWWA Student Design Competition

Since 2013 the BCWWA has hosted an annual design competition for post-secondary students, aiming to help students apply their academic skills to solve the real-world water and wastewater problems and encourage leadership and innovation in the water sector.

This year’s SDC competition asked the student teams to develop a biosolids management strategy for our partners at the Regional District of Nanaimo that included new infrastructure sized to manage all biosolids from four wastewater treatment plants for the next 50 years. Features including beneficial re-use of residuals and biogas were key components of a successful strategy developed by the students.
