Welcome to the new Rutgers IT newsletter

Members of the Rutgers IT community: In our current environment, when much of our work is remote and we cannot simply sit across a conference table to collaborate with colleagues, it's more important than ever to stay connected. With that in mind, I am pleased to introduce Inside Rutgers IT, the new e-newsletter for Rutgers IT staff—another step in our efforts to create a more integrated environment for IT professionals across the university. Spotlight: Rutgers IT Lecture Series

A new lecture series is bringing together the Rutgers IT community for virtual events. The first two events, which you can watch (or re-watch) at any time, focused on how users can get more from videoconferencing and collaboration software. The next event is planned for November. Webex and Zoom in the Fall Semester and Beyond View video. Collaboration Done Right: Leveraging Office 365 and Microsoft Teams View video.

Comparison chart for web conferencing

Zoom has joined Cisco Webex and Microsoft Teams as web conferencing platforms available to the Rutgers community. Did you know that you can host as many as 20,000 people on a Microsoft Teams webinar? Or that you have in-conference access to polling with Zoom and Webex? To help you and your users figure out what’s best for every situation, check out a new comparison chart, developed by the Synchronous Communication Committee.

Video highlighting remote IT support

As part of the “Returning to Rutgers Safely” video series, IP&O produced a video about the availability of remote IT support at Rutgers. Consider sharing the video with users seeking ways to get support remotely.

Taking the lead in anti-racism efforts

Tina Pappas, associate director of innovation and technology at Rutgers University–Newark, and Desiree White, IT accessibility analyst in the Office of Information Technology, are part of a group comprising community leaders from multiple institutions who have developed a program to promote anti-racism in higher education. Learn how to participate.

Staying up-to-date on IT events

Did you know a calendar of IT events is available as part of the Rutgers IT Connect group? From the web-based version of Outlook, choose the Rutgers IT group and then select the calendar icon (next to the file icon) to view the group calendar.
