Alliance for HOPE International is pleased to announce Catherine Johnson as the New Interim Director for Camp HOPE America. Catherine joins the team part-time from North Carolina, where she currently serves as the Guilford County Family Justice Center Director. She is one of the most dynamic Family Justice Center Directors in the country and is the founder of Camp HOPE America – North Carolina. Alliance CEO Gael Strack and Alliance President Casey Gwinn have both called Catherine, “the perfect person” to help lead Camp HOPE America forward during this time of transition with the departure of John Hamilton in early 2023.
Under Catherine’s leadership, the Guilford County Family Justice Center opened in 2015 in Greensboro, NC, and then expanded to include a second location in 2018 in High Point, NC. In addition, Catherine led the planning and implementation for Camp HOPE America – North Carolina, holding the first summer camp in 2017 and then expanding staff and programming to include a classic camp (7-11-year-olds), high adventure camp (12-17 year-olds), and a robust year-round pathways mentoring program.
Catherine Johnson will be joined by the Camp HOPE America team, Jamal Stroud, Mentor and Outreach Manager, and Erica Yamaguchi, Training and Education Manager. Together, there is much excitement in serving 45+ Affiliates and 5,000 children across the United States. Alliance for HOPE International is honored to make this announcement, and confident in what is to come – the future of Camp HOPE America is bright!
