Hello LA CoC HMIS Community,
As part of LAHSA’s Data Quality Monitoring Plan (DQMP), we are excited to launch a new initiative called the Mind Your Data Series. This series is designed to provide agencies with practical tips, training resources, and clear guidance on specific data elements that commonly impact data quality across the Continuum.
Each month, we’ll highlight a specific data element or common issue areas, along with actionable steps you can take to ensure the data in HMIS reflects the great work you’re doing across the system.
This Month’s Focus: Assigned Staff Accuracy
One of the most critical and often overlooked elements in HMIS is the Assigned Staff field. This field plays a vital role in:
- Ensuring the right clients appear in staff-level reports and dashboards
- Supporting accurate caseload reviews and data quality tracking
- Promoting clear lines of accountability and service coordination
- Ensures clients are correctly connected during the PSH matching process and prevents delays in placements.
What You Can Do:

Log in to HMIS and review your assigned participants
- Confirm that all participants you currently support are listed under your name
- Reassign any clients still listed under previous or incorrect staff

Use the Assigned Staff Job Aid to walk you through the update process
Why it Matters:
Many of our reporting tools, including the new User-Level Data Quality Dashboards, rely on the Assigned Staff field to display relevant information. When this information is inaccurate, your data and the impact of your work may not be fully reflected.
