Developing Brain Institute
At the forefront of clinical research and translational efforts
Over the past decade, the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) at Children’s National has grown from just a few core staff to a phenomenal, diverse and talented team of more than 45 staff and partners. DBI has assembled leading scientists and health care providers from across myriad disciplines and health care models (tertiary care to primary care) that are at the forefront of clinical research and translational efforts focused on accelerating screening, diagnosing, treating and preventing prenatal onset brain disorders to improve child health and well-being for life.
Now, we have a website as bold and innovative as our Institute's mission. Highlights:

The Developing Brain Institute at Children’s National, directed by Catherine Limperopoulos, Ph.D., focuses on the developing brain in utero, shortly after birth and throughout early childhood. We are developing advanced MRI techniques to examine the structure, connectivity and metabolism of the brain in ways that cannot be done with conventional MRI studies. Our long-term goal is to be able to identify babies with impaired brain growth as soon as possible, so that proper interventions and clinical planning can take place earlier.
