Inverness E-Newsletter
September 11, 2026
| | |
Message from Mayor Jack Tatooles
Dear Inverness Residents,
Each month, the Village sends out the Inverness E-Newsletter to keep residents informed, engaged, and connected with important community news, events, and resources. Topics regularly featured include home security, emergency preparedness, personal safety, and other issues that impact our community.
September is recognized as National Preparedness Month, making it the perfect time to review your family's emergency plans and preparedness supplies. Later in this
edition, you'll find information containing tips and resources to help you stay prepared.
The Inverness Police Department is investigating a recent ruse burglary that targeted an elderly couple within our community. Ruse burglaries occur when criminals use deception or impersonate utility workers, contractors, government employees, or other service providers to gain entry into a home. Once inside, one offender may distract the homeowner while an accomplice searches the residence for cash, jewelry, and other valuables
For your safety, NEVER allow unfamiliar individuals into your home until you have verified their identity and confirmed the reason for their visit. Trust your instincts. If something feels suspicious or makes you uncomfortable, keep the door closed and call 9-1-1. An Inverness Police officer can respond to the scene, help verify the person's identity, and provide peace of mind before you take any further action.
Call 9-1-1 for ANY suspicious activity immediately!
| | |
Additionally, we are excited to share that both of our Fire Protection Districts, Inverness Fire and Barrington Countryside, will host their annual open houses this month. Visit the Community Events section for dates and details.
We encourage residents to join us at these family-friendly events, which provide a wonderful opportunity to meet local firefighters, tour fire stations, learn valuable fire safety practices, and show your appreciation for the dedicated men and women who help keep our community safe.
Warm Regards,
Jack Tatooles,
Mayor

| | Reminder from The Inverness Police Department | | House Watch - Vacation & For Sale | | | | The Inverness Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe while building trust and collaboration with residents. As part of this commitment, we offer two (2), free specialized house watch programs designed to add peace of mind. Sign up at https://vw.inverness-il.gov. | | |
Vacation Watch:
Officers will monitor your home while you're away - helping deter potential trespassers, responding quickly to suspicious activity, and ensuring your property stays secure so you can relax and enjoy your time away.
Before leaving on your trip, the Inverness Police Department suggests that you:
- Have your mail forwarded to you, held at the post office, or arrange to have it picked up daily.
- Never leave mail in a single central location, such as the kitchen table or countertop, where it can be seen and taken as an obvious sign that you are gone.
- Cancel your newspaper delivery.
- Avoid announcing that you will be away from home on social media.
- Leave a phone number where you can be reached with one or more neighbors so you can be notified of an emergency.
- Give your home that "lived in" look by using timers for your lights and a radio. Vary the times they switch on and off.
For-Sale Watch:
Officers will monitor homes listed for-sale, helping prevent trespassing and unauthorized access. This service is especially valuable for vacant properties, offering reassurance for homeowners and neighbors alike.
9-1-1 IS NOT ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES IT IS FOR ANY POLICE RESPONSE
If you see someone or something suspicious, call 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY
