Bridging Technology and Human Connection

A Durham Region innovator is reshaping the way we connect with information. With its AI-powered voice technology, Miramedia helps bridge technology and human connection by making digital content more accessible, engaging and natural.

The Whitby-based company has more than two decades of experience supporting brands and retailers, and while its roots are in health and wellness, its technology is being applied across a wide range of industries and communities.

Through its Voice Model platform, Miramedia recently partnered with the Downtown Whitby Business Improvement Area to create a customized voice assistant. It debuted at last year’s Home Sweet Home Festival, helping visitors navigate the downtown core and discover local restaurants, shops and services.

For Miramedia, expanding in Durham Region made strategic sense, crediting the region’s collaborative business community and access to local partnerships that support its growth.

Connecting Classrooms to Careers

Building on its work as Intelligent Community of the Year, Durham Region recently brought together partners from across sectors to explore shared priorities. Among the discussions was how strong connections between students, educators and employers work together to build a skilled workforce where local talent can succeed.

With four post-secondary schools welcoming 30,000 full-time students each year, the region benefits from a strong and diverse talent pipeline. This pipeline is built through the region’s collaborative approach—bringing together educators and employers to align education and training with local industry demand and real-world needs.

Students gain valuable hands-on experience through opportunities, such as community-based research and living labs, preparing them with practical, career-ready skills. This approach not only supports student success but also helps local businesses access the skilled talent they need to grow.

All businesses, including home-based businesses, non-profit organizations and farms, are encouraged to participate. Surveyors, recognizable by their navy-blue Region of Durham shirts and photo ID cards, are making in-person visits and as well as connecting by phone. The Business Count can also be completed online.
