Durham Region Named One of Canada’s 20 Best Locations for Investment

The Regional Municipality of Durham has been ranked among Canada’s top 20 locations to invest in 2024 by Site Selection Magazine, an internationally circulated publication for corporate real estate and economic development.

The ranking is based on factors like capital investment and job creation on a cumulative and per-capita basis. The recognition by Site Selection Magazine solidifies Durham’s standing as a prime investment destination and highlights the region’s reputation as an innovative and welcoming environment for successfully growing businesses.

As a top choice for investment, Durham Region is in demand. In 2023, non-residential building permits in Durham reached an all-time high of $1.23 billion. Recent investments, expansions and job creation prove that Durham is one of Canada’s emerging premier investment locations.

A Dream Realized with New Event Space

The opening in July 2024 of boutique wedding and event venue, Palais Noir, was a dream finally realized for Sandra Colair.

The entrepreneur started decorating events 15 years ago but began focusing on owning her own event venue during the Covid-19 pandemic. Encouraged by her husband, Sandra describes the experience as both challenging and extremely gratifying.

Like any business, opening Palais Noir came with unexpected twists but Sandra is proud of the community-centred space she has created in Ajax.

“With Palais Noir, I can provide a beautiful, high-quality space where my community can celebrate life's important moments without the stresses typically associated with planning and hosting an event.”
