Prescott Featured in Business View Magazine — Again Making “Big Moves”

The Town of Prescott is once again featured in the national spotlight with a second profile in the July 2025 issue of Business View Magazine.

The article, titled “Small Town, Big Moves,” highlights Prescott’s transformation into one of Eastern Ontario’s most ambitious and well-positioned communities for growth, investment, and tourism.

Prescott's new Waterfront Patio, funded through a contribution by the My Main Street Program.

Strategically located between Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto—just minutes from the U.S. border and connected by Highway 401 and CN Rail—Prescott is reclaiming its status as a key hub along the St. Lawrence River.

This latest profile showcases the Town’s coordinated approach to infrastructure renewal, economic development, and waterfront revitalization.

Prescott’s Community Improvement Program (CIP) and My Main Street downtown revitalization funding have driven visible change in the downtown core. Commercial vacancies have declined, and property owners, tenants, and new businesses have accessed support to upgrade façades, modernize interiors, and launch operations. These private investments have been matched by public enhancements including a new RiverWalk Patio, upgraded wayfinding, and a forthcoming mural and business directory.

New investments are changing the way residents and visitors experience Prescott. The Town’s first branded hotel, a 69-room Quality Inn & Suites, opened in 2025, contributing to rising overnight stays and visitor spending. Meanwhile, the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre is drawing steady regional traffic and creating new demand for downtown food and retail. Together, these developments are revitalizing the local economy and positioning Prescott as a more dynamic year-round destination.

Prescott’s waterfront—long considered its greatest natural asset—is undergoing a multi-phase transformation.

The marina has seen a full dock replacement, Centennial Park has added floating infrastructure and a splash pad, and nearly two kilometres of riverfront trails now support active recreation and tourism. Seasonal vendors and equipment rentals, such as kayaks and paddleboards, have created new opportunities for waterfront exploration. Future phases will explore mixed-use development along the shoreline, expanded docking for cruise ships, and additional tourism amenities.

The article also highlights the Town’s early leadership in climate resilience and sustainability. Prescott was one of the first small municipalities in the region to install electric vehicle charging stations. A town-wide conversion to LED streetlights has reduced energy use, while flood mitigation measures and shoreline fortification have increased climate readiness.

Environmental programming also includes a successful countertop composter rebate initiative and expanded cycling infrastructure that earned Downtown Prescott a Bike-Friendly Business District designation.

Strong regional partnerships are another cornerstone of Prescott’s progress. The Town has worked closely with neighbouring municipalities to secure major infrastructure funding—including $32 million through the Housing Enabling Water Fund to support wastewater plant expansion. Joint initiatives like the River Route transit service have strengthened rural connectivity and regional collaboration. This spirit of cooperation, paired with a highly coordinated internal development approach, has improved Prescott’s reputation as an investor-friendly community with streamlined processes and responsive service.

Prescott’s story is one of forward momentum, supported by clear vision, community buy-in, and a commitment to building an exceptional quality of life. This second national feature affirms that small communities can drive big outcomes when they focus on place-based opportunity, strategic investment, and collaborative leadership.

The Program can also play a crucial role in helping businesses manage project costs during the periods of economic uncertainty. The program provides non-repayable grants, 0% interest loans, and tax incentives, making it easier for businesses and private property owners to continue their investments in our community.

Please see the map below for public parking locations. As always, obey posted signage as restrictions may vary by location.

Downtown Prescott's King Street Promenade, held August 2nd, filled the streets with residents, visitors, and activities for all ages.

Summer Tourism Season Brings Events & Visitors to Prescott

Prescott’s 2025 summer tourism season is in full swing, drawing thousands of visitors to the waterfront, downtown, and event spaces for a packed schedule of festivals, music, and local experiences. From Father’s Day weekend through to Labour Day, the Town has been bustling with energy and economic activity.

The season kicked off with the inaugural Prescott Ribfest & Sportsman Show, paired with the 2025 Prescott Trolley, which offered free, narrated transportation between key attractions and businesses. Canada Day followed with live music, artisan vendors, paddle rentals, and a record-setting fireworks display launched from Fort Wellington — all anchored at the Prescott Pop-Ups.

Signature events like Canine Watersports Canada, Prescott Beer Fest, and the King Street Promenade have continued to fill the calendar and the downtown core. Beer Fest welcomed over 500 attendees and featured nine breweries and distilleries at the Pop-Ups, while the Promenade transformed King Street into a vibrant pedestrian hub with expanded markets, sidewalk sales, and street performers.

Weekly programming has kept momentum high. The Prescott Pop-Ups and adjacent Farmers’ & Crafters’ Market have become weekend staples, while #SunsetSessions and Pop-Ups Unplugged provide live music every weekend by the river. Meanwhile, the Sunday Night Concert Series and St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival continue to animate the amphitheatre.

Still to come: the Prescott Spiritual Wellness Fair on August 9 at the Pop-Ups, and Prescott Porchfest 2.0 on September 27 — a fall encore to the rained-out spring edition.

Prescott’s summer programming continues to showcase the power of placemaking and partnership, reinforcing the Town’s status as a must-visit destination on the St. Lawrence.
