Invest in Whelden-

Please Support Your Village Library

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It’s our annual time to remind you how valuable you are to us and how much we rely on you for help. As less than 50% of our funding comes from the Town of Barnstable, we need to raise at least $18,000 to cover increasing costs of materials and operations. Whelden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. All gifts and donations are tax deductible.

Whelden provides you with valuable services…

  • Conveniently located on Route 149, (just off Route 6), our library is a friendly, warm and comfortable place to visit
  • Open 6 days / 30 hours per week
  • Multi-generational programming: Together, Liz and Julie are expanding our free programs for patrons of all ages
  • Print and online resources for entertainment and education: watching, reading, listening and learning. Don’t forget our museum pass collection!
  • Substantial building improvements for your comfort: including new flooring, furnishings, energy efficient lighting, and a generator

What We Accomplished

  • MA Cans & Bottles Deposits: The Trustees had a successful month of September at the Town Transfer Station, generating almost $5,000 in income to support the daily running of the library. Please continue to bring your MA Deposit cans and plastic bottles to the shed in our parking lot. This revenue helps keep the programs and library services available to our residents.
  • A new sign out front: Board President Rusty Gage oversaw the restoration and installation of the Whelden sign.
  • The Friends of Whelden Library continue to run book sales twice a month in the lower level of the library. The Friends support the library with funds along with their own enthusiastic energy. Each year, this book sale contributes $6,000 to our operating budget. Thank you to the FOWL and those who donate books to our sale.
  • An addition to the staff: This year we welcomed a new Adult Programmer to our "Small but Mighty" team- Julie Williams. Stop by and say hello, and please share any ideas you have for upcoming programs!
  • The Giant Sculpture by Sandwich artist Michael Magyar of our library logo, a boy reading to his dog returns...

Thank you in advance for your generous support of the Whelden Library. We look forward to seeing you in the library and at our events.
