Investing in Our Future
(Part 1 of a Multi-part Series)

Ecumen Update

On Sunday September 23rd, the board hosted an informational meeting for the congregation to share a proposal for wise expenditure of $300,000 due soon from Ecumen for the sale of some of Our Savior's property earlier this summer. Treasurer, Joel Frost, presented a proposal outlining a potential breakdown that covered:
  1. Mission and Outreach ("first fruits" - $30,000)
  2. Facility Upgrades (furnace replacement, security, lighting, other deferred maintenance costs - $75,000)
  3. Mortgage reduction ($75,000)
  4. Reserves/Unallocated future investments ($120,000).
A very good discussion ensued among the approximately 50 in attendance with many sharing very thoughtful perspectives on the pragmatic needs for the church as well as dreams that this money might be able to do for our church's new future. Despite a few members communicating the importance of allocating much of the money toward mortgage reduction, a much larger number of members seemed to be in favor of reducing the amount dedicated to mortgage reduction and increasing the amount going into reserves for future investments. Most were in favor of the presented proposal for Mission and Outreach and facility upgrade funds (New 95% efficient furnaces are in our future!).

If you would like a copy of the notes taken at the meeting, please contact Ray Valley or Joel Frost and we will forward you a scanned copy. We are awaiting last minute plat approvals by the City and County, but the funds from Ecumen should be hitting our bank account soon. We are not going to rush to spend these funds, so if you have additional feedback for the board, please contact Joel or myself.

I am continually amazed and inspired by our congregation. There is so much good happening now and for which to be thankful. The board looks forward to sharing much more good news in the coming weeks.

In Christ,

Ray Valley
Board President

Valley Outreach Undie Campaign!

Last year, OSLC collected 1,365 pieces of undies; as of Wednesday, October 10 th , the undies count was 900. In 2017, Valley Outreach received more
than 6,800 undies/socks. This year they anticipate they will give out 15,000 undies/socks. Your donations of new, in-the-package socks and underwear will help Valley Outreach attain their goal.

Last day to donate is Wednesday, October 17 (new date). We are vying to keep our "undies" trophy for the 3rd straight year. Help us to finish strong serving those in need in our community!
Meals from the Heart Event!

You're invited to OSLC's fourth annual meal packing event on Saturday,
November 3, from 4 - 6 pm. The Evangelism and Mission & Outreach Committees are partnering with Meals from the Heart to pack meals to feed struggling families in Minnesota and Eastern Wisconsin. We are looking for 80 volunteers this year. Children are welcome to participate. Any kids under age 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up and drop your payment in the Drop Box at the Welcome Desk by Sunday, October 28.
