Summer Internship Program
|
|
Since 2015, the Economic Club has collaborated with Urban Alliance to provide professional development opportunities throughout the Summer Internship Program. This program allows scholars to gain real life work experience, professional development and financial support to offset college expenses. This year, the program will provide 35 internship experiences for Economic Club scholars. Internships are expected to remain virtual for summer 2021.

The David M. Rubenstein/ Economic Club
of Washington, D.C. Scholarship
|
|
This year marks the thirteenth year of the prestigious David M. Rubenstein Scholarship Program that supports public and public charter school graduates in the District of Columbia. The Economic Club is proud to announce that 54 scholars have been selected to form the Class of 2021, making this year the largest class yet of recipients. Among the winners are 37 DC public high school seniors and 17 DC public charter school seniors. Since 2009, the program has provided $8.5 million to 602 DC graduates. Each scholar will receive $20,000 over the course of four years of study. Congratulations to our Class of 2021!
A virtual scholarship ceremony will be held this spring to celebrate our newest recipients. More details are soon to come.

Jonah Jackson is a 2014 scholar from Roosevelt High School and holds a B.A. in International Relations from Mercyhurst University (2018). He is a 2021 Juris Doctorate Candidate at Villanova University’s School of Law. As a scholar, Jonah has taken advantage of the connections at the Economic Club. Currently, he serves as a mentor and member of the Alumni Leadership Council. Upon graduation, Jonah will begin his career with Reed Smith LLP. Click here to learn more Jonah.

Adrienne Kramer is a 2009 David M. Rubenstein/Economic Club Scholarship recipient from School Without Walls. She continued her education at SUNY Geneseo earning a B.A. in Geography with a dual minor in Math and Spanish. Upon completion of undergrad, she continued to study Geography at Pennsylvania State University, where she obtained her M.S. and PhD. Adrienne now serves as a mentor to current scholars and as a member of the Alumni Leadership Council. Click here to learn more about Adrienne.

Reniya Dinkins is a 2014 Economic Club Scholar. Reniya took advantage of opportunities with the Club’s Scholars to Leaders programming to help her jumpstart her career in politics. Reniya is a Research Assistant for The Brookings Institute Metropolitan Policy program, assisting the director with research and external engagements focused on inclusive economic development in U.S. cities and metropolitan areas. Most recently, she has been accepted to UC Berkeley Goldman School with a full-tuition fellowship to earn a Master’s degree in Public Policy. Click here to learn more about Reniya.

Scholars to Leaders Mentor Monday Program

Since September 2020, the Economic Club has hosted eleven Mentor Monday events to help scholars expand their horizons, learn about different industries, and sharpen their job hunting skills. Each month, members of the Scholars to Leaders community meet to discuss a variety of topics and to provide scholars networking opportunities with peers, members, alumni, and emerging leaders. Scholars practiced critical interviewing skills with Economic Club leaders during this session. Scholars submitted their resumes in advance for an opportunity to receive valuable feedback and advice on best interview practices from Economic Club Members, Emerging Leaders, and Scholarship Alumni.

This event featured Economic Club Members who are Black business leaders making an impact in the community. In a panel moderated by Scholar Alumna Belinda Cook, Private Banking Associate at Bank of America, these leaders shared insights and important advice to scholars. The panelists were Kendrick Ashton, Co-founder and Managing Partner at The St. James Group; Toni Cook Bush, Executive Vice President, Global Head of Government Affairs at News Corp.; and George Lambert, Jr., President and CEO of Greater Washington Urban League.
