South Loop sales continued at a brisk pace thru-out 2021. In the area from Ida B Wells to Cermak & Wells to the lakefront, 1,261 residential condo’s closed in the prior 12 months, 671 in the last 6 months.

Big pocket real estate investment firms are betting on a recovery in general in both the Loop and South Loop.

Loop office tower sales trending up

Two pending purchases totaling $400 million show buyers are betting on the future of the downtown office market. A pair of investors are poised to take over two downtown office buildings in deals totaling $400 million. Virginia-based real estate investment firm Firenze Group is close to finalizing a contract to pay more than $310 million for the 65-story tower at 311 S. Wacker Drive. Miami-based Agave Holdings is finalizing a deal to pay around $85 million for the 28-story building at 225 W. Washington St.

Amazon to add 450 jobs downtown

Amazon has added more Loop office space and intends to add hundreds of tech and corporate jobs in downtown Chicago over the next several years, it's adding more office space in the Loop to make room for them. Amazon said that it has a new lease for about 67,000 square feet at 222 W. Adams St.

Software firm signs lease for Chicago expansion

Publicly traded Braze is coming to State Street. Braze is a marketing software company whose platform is used by companies to help reach consumers. The company subleased about 50,000 square feet at 1 N. State St. from software maker Showpad.

Three new retailers coming to Block 37 on State St.

The Block 37 shopping mall downtown is adding three more tenants. Lindbergh, Designers Market and Candle Time are opening stores at Block 37. First Ascent, an indoor climbing gym, also expanded to 28,000 square feet from 11,000 square feet at Block 37 last year.

Old Post Office adds another new tenant

Retail analytics company ShopperTrak will move some of their offices to the redeveloped Old Post Office.
The retail analytics company has signed a deal for 28,217 square feet at 433 W. Van Buren St., according to an announcement from leasing brokerage Telos Group.
