The Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa is pleased to invite you to the concluding lecture in its online series dedicated to key figures in the history of Italian art. This initiative, conducted in Hebrew and open to the public at no cost, brings academic expertise to a wider audience interested in the visual cultures of early modern Europe.

Dr. Irina Chernetsky — lecturer at Tel Aviv University (Department of Art History), the Schechter Institute, and Beit Berl College — will examine the emergence of Renaissance art, focusing on the extraordinary figure of Giotto di Bondone, whose work marked a turning point in the history of Western art.

ההרצאה השלישית והאחרונה במסגרת הסדרה העוסקת ביצירתו של האמן הפלורנטיני ג'וטו די בונדונה תתמקד בשלב המאוחר של פעילותו האמנותית. נדון במחזורי הפרסקו שבקפלות ברדי ופרוצי בכנסיית סנטה קרוצ'ה בפירנצה, תוך בחינת המאפיינים הסגנוניים והאיקונוגרפיים המייחדים אותם, והאופן שבו הם משקפים את השינויים החברתיים והתרבותיים של המאה ה-14. בנוסף, נעסוק בפרויקט התכנוני של ג'וטו למגדל הפעמונים של הקתדרלה החדשה של פירנצה, תוך התייחסות לחשיבותו בהקשר של התפתחות השפה האדריכלית בעיר בתקופה זו

La terza e ultima lezione del nostro ciclo dedicato al celebre pittore fiorentino Giotto, figlio di Bondone, sarà incentrata sui suoi capolavori più tardi. Analizzeremo gli affreschi iconici delle cappelle Peruzzi e Bardi a Firenze, indagando in che modo riflettano i profondi mutamenti sociali del tempo. Verrà inoltre approfondito il progetto di Giotto per il campanile della nuova cattedrale fiorentina.

The third and final lecture in our series on the celebrated Florentine painter Giotto, son of Bondone, will be devoted to his later masterpieces. We will delve into the iconic frescoes of the Peruzzi and Bardi Chapels in Florence, examining how they mirror the profound social transformations of his time. The session will also include a discussion of Giotto’s design for the bell tower of Florence’s new cathedral.
