The Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa is honored to present you with the second meeting in its brand new series of three online lectures in Hebrew, and free of charge.

Dr. Irina Chernetsky, a lecturer at the University of Tel Aviv (Department of Art History), Schechter Institute, and Beit Berl College, will explore the dawning of Rainassance Art and tell us about the genius of someone destined to revolutionize Western art forever.

Il ciclo di affreschi della Cappella degli Scrovegni a Padova è l’opera più famosa – ancora esistente – di Giotto di Bondone. In questa seconda lezione studieremo il capolavoro patavino, concentrandoci sulla rappresentazione inedita e innovativa di scene familiari, e sottolineando il realismo spaziale, fisico e psicologico nell’arte di Giotto. Discuteremo anche del sorriso della sua Madonna ed esploreremo come e perché i compatrioti di Giotto lo abbiano elevato allo status di eroe nazionale.

The fresco cycle in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua is the most famous surviving work by Giotto di Bondone. In this second lesson we will study the Paduan masterpiece, focusing on the groundbreaking and innovative representation of familiar scenes, and emphasizing the spatial, physical and psychological realism in Giotto’s art. We will also discuss his Madonna's smile and explore how and why Giotto’s compatriots elevated him to the status of a national hero.
