Workforce Planning Hamilton has delivered the EmployerOne Survey in partnership with the City of Hamilton’s Economic Development team to develop and distribute this Business Impact Survey. This survey focused on the impact businesses have endured across all industries and how local employers were fairing in the January 2022 labour market. This year 1085 employers completed the EmployerOne survey.

YWCA: Back To School Information Session

Settlement Counseling will be hosting Back to school information session in the next week. This session is designed for newcomer parents who seek to help their children during the school year, particularly if they have never attended school before.

Following topics will be discussed in this session:

  • How to help your children get ready for school
  • Daily life at school (Attendance, being late or absence, and school closures)
  • Communication between families and schools (Open House, and Parent-Teacher Interviews).
  • How to help with children’s learning and schoolwork.
  • How to support your children when feeling anxious, being bullied or harassed, or making new friends.

Feeling Demotivated? Consider How Your Job Helps Others.

No topic is as critical right now as employee engagement and motivation. Employees desperately want to feel engaged. Nine out of 10 people would take lower compensation to do more meaningful work. And engaged employees perform better, experience less burnout, and stay in jobs longer.


This translates to business success for companies that motivate and engage their people. Gallup has found top-quartile employee engagement firms experienced a multitude of advantages over bottom-quartile firms, including increased profitability (23%), increased productivity (18%), decreased absenteeism (81%), and increased client engagement (10%).

Take a moment to bring to mind a person who’s burned out. You’re likely picturing someone who is overbooked and overwhelmed, drowning in multiple demands and competing priorities.

But, burnout is far more nuanced than simply being busy and tired.


For years, it was believed that everyone reacted to chronic workplace stress in the same way. But research has revealed that burnout manifests itself in different ways depending on a person’s work environment as well as their internal resources, including dedication to their job and coping mechanisms.
