Justices of the Peace Compensation Commission – Notice of Hearing and Request for Submissions

An independent Judicial Compensation Commission has been established under Alberta’s Judicature Act to review and recommend the appropriate level of compensation for the Alberta Court of Justice justices of the peace, for the period April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2025.


The Commission will be holding a public hearing on Feb. 8 and 9, 2024 at the Edmonton Law Courts building, 1A Sir Winston Churchill Square.


The Commission is inviting written submissions from interested members of the public on the appropriate level of compensation for the justices of the peace for the time period of April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2025. Please send electronic written submissions on or before January 11, 2024 to Ruth Fast, Legal Counsel, Alberta Justice.


Submissions should include your name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number. Please provide a summary of your submissions if they are lengthy. The Commission may permit oral submissions during the public hearing. Please indicate whether or not you wish to make an oral submission in addition to your written submission.
