Greetings my friends,
We're about to enter into that great week long celebration called Holy Week. And I would like to invite you to take a walk with me to take a walk that hundreds and thousands of Christians are taking across the world in this coming week.
Take a walk with me with Jesus, that long walk that he took from Galilee, down to Jerusalem, the triumphal entry that he made all the way up to the temple, the time he spent at supper with friends, the washing of feet, the waiting in the garden in prayer, waiting for that time of betrayal, and then his walk that long, slow walk all the way to the cross.
I invite you to take this walk with me, as we try to do every year to allow the great work that Christ has done for us to simply resound in our ears, and in our hearts. I invite you to come to church. And if you cannot come to church, then read through our beautiful services and all the readings that are included in your prayer book at home.
And remember that when, we are taking this walk that there were others who are walking alongside Jesus, and that was the disciples who always represented us so well, even if we don't like to admit it, the disciples who were not getting it, the disciples who did not focus on what Jesus was teaching the disciples who were not welcoming others, the disciples who are squabbling among themselves, the disciples who were pushing for position, the disciples who fell asleep in the garden and in the and ran away at the cross. These are the ones for whom Jesus took this mighty walk, through suffering through death to life again, what wondrous love is this that is spent out for me, long before I got it, or began to behave like a person who knew of love. This is the love that Jesus is sharing with us.
So I invite you to take this walk all the way through to the early morning, when the dew of the grass will make your feet wet and damp in the hands of your robes or your trousers because you will find in that garden, the risen Lord Jesus Christ.
