Savannah's newest Gastro-Pub on Broughton Street

Launches Month Long Charity Food Drive to Celebate Opening  

 

Savannah, GA   

Sue Rex pirate Rex Osborn and Sue Else, whose initials were the inspiration for the restaurant name: R.O.S.E. Public House!.  immediately have fallen in love with Savannah and the low country's charm, gracious people, rich history and culture all wrapped together with the beautiful beaches of the islands. This love of the Hostess City of the South inspired these 2 natives of the Hawkeye state, Iowa, home of Johnny Carson and John Wayne,  to head south for a warmer climate !   Sue and her partner Rex Osborn moved from the hectic life of Washington DC., their most recent location, and are proud to call Savannah their new home. Together, they boldly opened the R.O.S.E. Public House., the week of St. Patrick's Day in March of 2013.

Sue Else: a National Leader in Domestic Violence Issues
Sue's career in operating domestic violence shelters has taken her from Iowa to Kansas City to Washington DC, where she is proud to have helped pass life saving legislation  She was recognized for wSue Dr. Phil ork by being voted Woman of the Year - in Kansas City  by local business organization. Nationally acknowledged as a leader in her field, Sue's accomplishments include winning the National Peace Award by the Sunshine Foundation,  being invited to the White House and serving as a regular guest on The Dr. Phil Show.

 As the President of the NNEDV (National Network to End Domestic Violence)  she hosted  the 2nd World Shelter Conference on Domestic Violence in Washington, DC, whose celebrity guests included, the Crown Princess Mary  of  Denmark (See Right)  President Bill Clinton, actress Reese Witherspoon and singer Gloria Gaynor

 

With REX the RESTAURANTEER: they launch the ROSE PUBLIC HOUSE. Great food & drink in a casual environment. Both Rex and Sue are big fans of Red wines, especially the cabernets. Jointly they created the signature drink for the ROSE restaurant;  The Rose Martini. Rex started in the restaurant industry in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He owned and operated three successful restaurants- Dr Salami's in two locations, Oskaloosa and Pella, Iowa and Floodwaters in Muscatine, Iowa.  Rex and Sue love having their extended family members including Rex's 3 children and grandchildren  come to visit the low country.  Sue and Rex have made a home on Savannah's Oatland Island with their hypoallergenic Havanese dog;  Miz Jagger. Sue Jagger As you can tell, Sue and Rex are big Rolling Stones fans, and if you look closely at the ROSE logo, you'll see the tongue hidden among the rose! Avid boaters and fishers, they are enjoying fishing off their Oatland Island home dock every day.

The R.O.S.E. Public House's Executive Chef, Michael Rafferty is originally from the Windy City of Chicago. He got his start cooking at the age of ten when his fathers' friends entered a BBQ cooking contest in Chicago and were later invited to the national BBQ competition in Iowa.  He later attended  Culinary School at the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago.  After helping to open a successful restaurant in Oklahoma City, he moved to a small resort town about two hours north of Boise, Idaho.   It was there that he worked under the world's youngest Master Chef, Jason  Koppinger.  During his time there the resort achieved the coveted AAA Four Diamond status.  Looking for a new challenge, Chef Michael and his partner, Miz Jordan, decided to move across the country to experience the Savannah lifestyle .   

 
They've chosen to live downtown in the heart of the city, on Charlton Street, Just off  of  Troup Square.  home of the Jingle Bell Church. This young couple has fallen in love with the beaches of Tybee and glad to be in a warmer climate.  Avid Chicago Cubs Fan, Michael's looking to forward to attending the Savannah Sand Gnats games,  A big fan of microbreweries, he especially enjoys the  Bell Breweries'  double cream chocolate stout and has already started sampling the Georgia brews. A regular at the concert scenes and musical festivals, Michael has been enjoying the Savannah Music Festival, especially the BLUES performances.   Looking to adopt a big dog, Michael's sister is involved in Great Dane rescue work,  they've just started investigating local dog rescue groups. Chef Michael joined the team at R.O.S.E. in February 2013. 

 

Chef Michael's SIGNATURE DISHES: include Braised Short Rbs with Horseradish Mashed Potatoes,  Seared Roasted Salmon with purple THAI  sticky rice.  Chef Michael has gotten rave reviewsf or his version of Shrimp & Grits using a Adluh yellow Stone-Ground Grits with seasoned home-made sundried tomatoes compound butter, white wine, & the finest local Georgia Wild Shrimp.   Blue Crab Stuffed Jalapeno Peppers with a avocado cream sauce,,  Horseradish Stuffed Shrimp Wrapped in Bacon.   For desserts try the Georgia Peach Sorbet stuffed inside a real peach and Pretzel Bottomed Brownie served with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
