RSVP for the Los Angeles Premiere of

The New Gold Standard: Cutting Edge Science That's Replacing Animal Testing

We are thrilled to invite you to the Los Angeles premiere of this groundbreaking documentary exploring the future of medical research without animal testing!

What makes this film especially meaningful to us is the extraordinary team of animal advocates and longtime friends of Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL) who brought it to life.

Our very own board member and dedicated animal advocate, Maggie Q, joins longtime SCIL supporter and philanthropist Jim Greenbaum as executive producers. The film was produced and directed by another dear friend and longtime supporter, acclaimed filmmaker Steven Latham.

We couldn't be prouder of their commitment to advancing science, challenging outdated practices, and helping build a future where medical breakthroughs no longer come at the expense of animals.

We hope you'll join us for this special premiere and help celebrate a more compassionate future for science!

CALL TO ACTION

Stop the USDA from killing our wildlife!

Click on the photo above or HERE to read the full story in the Fresno Bee.

In 2025, the USDA killed 2.8 million animals nationwide, including 28,000 in California, using methods such as snares, traps, firearms, and aerial shooting—all funded by taxpayers.

Wildlife advocates are calling for an end to these lethal practices and a shift toward humane, science-based, nonlethal wildlife management that protects animals, people, and ecosystems.

Make Your Voice Heard!

Contact your U.S. senators and representative and urge them to demand that the USDA end lethal wildlife control and use nonlethal methods exclusively to manage human-wildlife conflicts.

Our wildlife deserves protection, not persecution. Our tax dollars should fund coexistence, not killing.

Glue Trap Harms Barn Owl in Irvine; Police Urge Residents to Not Use Them

We are sad, but unsurprised, to learn of yet another incidence of a glue trap harming non-target wildlife, this time in Irvine. Click on the link to read about a barn owl found covered in glue after trying to eat a rodent which was already stuck to the cruel device.

Thankfully five cities in California have banned glue traps: West Hollywood, Culver City, Ojai, Ventura, and Laguna Beach.

Now is the time for California to ban glue traps entirely. They are among the cruelest methods of pest control, causing animals to suffer for hours or days as they struggle to escape, often resulting in severe injuries, dehydration, starvation, and prolonged deaths. These indiscriminate devices also trap unintended victims, including birds, reptiles, and other wildlife, while humane and effective alternatives are readily available.

California has long been a leader in animal protection, and a statewide ban would build on the actions of cities that have already prohibited these inhumane devices, ensuring that no animal is subjected to such unnecessary suffering.

Thanks to your support, 2026 has been another successful year for Social Compassion in Legislation! We celebrated two more bills signed into law, bringing our total to 32 laws protecting animals. And we're already gearing up for another ambitious legislative session in 2027!

But none of this happens without you. This has been an especially challenging year for nonprofit organizations, and we need your financial support now more than ever. If you believe in the work we do and the animals we fight so hard to protect, please consider making a donation. Your generosity makes our victories possible and allows us to continue this important work.

With tons of gratitude,
