COPING WITH NEW CHALLENGES
FOR THE FED
 
The Shadow Open Market Committee (SOMC) will be holding its second conference on the west coast at Chapman University.

Founded in 1973 by Allan Meltzer and Karl Brunner, the members of the committee are distinguished monetary economists that study and comment on Federal Reserve policy.

The theme of the conference is the "Coping with new Challenges for the Fed." SOMC members Michael Bordo, Deborah Lucas, Mickey Levy, Andrew Levin and Peter Ireland will present position papers on central banking and monetary policy. The discussants for the papers are Jonathan Rose, Warren Weber, Eduardo Davila, Ben Malin, and Jerry Nickelsburg.

The keynote address will be given by Mark L.J. Wright, Research Director of Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank, on the topic “The Federal Reserve’s Strategy, Tools, and Communications.”

The conference is free and open to the public.
