IoD Ireland Members' Update
August 2023
| |
Dear Anne,
I hope this finds you well.
We were delighted to host our annual Summer Reception at Airfield Estate last Thursday. At the reception, John Reynolds CDir, President, IoD Ireland, welcomed members and colleagues, including Dr Margaret Cullen, Governance Advisor, IoD Ireland, and Professor and IoD Fellow Niamh Brennan CDir, as well as board members and Claire Mac Evilly, Chief Executive Officer from Airfield Estate.
As part of his address, John reflected on the importance of the role of company directors and how they hold a special duty to act in their organisation's best interests. This requires many of the core tenets of corporate governance, including integrity, transparency, collective responsibility of the board, and division of responsibility.
The aim of IoD Ireland will always be to continue to support our members in meeting these expectations and obligations by educating, informing, and supporting business leaders. As part of this work, I am delighted to announce our partnerships with Global Cyber Alliance and Cyber Ireland. We look forward to working alongside these organisations to provide our members with access to cyber security knowledge and expertise.
Our review of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) public consultation on their proposed changes to the UK Corporate Governance Code and the Central Bank of Ireland's Administrative Sanctions Procedure (ASP) consultation is ongoing. We will continue to update members on these key areas as they develop. If you have any questions on these items, you can direct them to Dr Margaret Cullen.
Last but not least, I am delighted to note that IoD Ireland’s partnership project 'Creative Boardroom: Collaboarte4Climate’, in conjunction with IoD Northern Ireland, Arran Street East, and the Creatives Future Academy, has been selected as a Shared Island initiative as part of Creative Ireland's Climate Action Fund. This was announced by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin TD, and Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD, in July. See more on this below.
This ezine's issue also includes the latest director education programmes, director factsheets, exclusive content and benefits available to members, all outlined below.
