IoD Members' Update
January 2022
|
|
Dear Member
I would like to wish you and yours a happy and healthy 2022.
We are delighted to publish the latest list of recently qualified Chartered Directors (please see below for more information). Congratulations to you all. I also extend best wishes to all commencing or continuing the programme this year.
I, like many of you, will be looking forward to our annual briefing on ‘The Irish Property Market Outlook’, presented by Marian Finnegan, Managing Director of Residential and Advisory, Sherry FitzGerald Group. The first in our IoD Ireland Briefings Series, again kindly sponsored by Accenture for 2022, will take place on Thursday, 13th January, as a webinar. Marian’s insightful assessment of current and future property trends never fails to inform and engage. If you would like to attend, please see booking details below.
It is important for all directors to keep up to date with all aspects of their role and responsibilities. Our new IoD Essentials Workshop Series commences next month, with 'Finance for Company Directors' and 'Understanding the Role and Responsibilities of the Board, Its Chair and Directors'. Please see below, for more information on how to book your place.
Networking is a key benefit of membership of the IoD and I am delighted to say that our highly successful ‘Business Connections’ series continues later this month. It offers an opportunity for our members to meet and get to know each other during the course of the online event and its breakout chatrooms. More information on how to book your place is listed below.
Inflation and supply chain issues are very much key issues of the day. We are pleased to have Glenn Murphy, the recently appointed Chairman of the Board of the global Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, offer his insights on these matters exclusively for IoD members in his fascinating blog, ‘Shipflation and the Need to Think Outside of the Box’.
I would also encourage you to watch our recent webinar with Vice Admiral (Rtd) Mark Mellett, former Chief of Staff of Ireland’s Defence Forces, on the thought-provoking topic of 'Principles for Survival'. This webinar was part of our Lunch Bites @ the IoD Series, which will again be kindly sponsored by IQ-EQ for 2022. This webinar is now available as a webcast 24/7 for IoD members, as is all our content, on our website.
Thank you.

Meet a Member | Susie Horgan: Founder and Managing Director
|
|
For over 10 years, Susie Horgan has owned and run Springboard Communications - a multi-award-winning Irish agency. She is a communications professional with over 20 years’ experience. Susie specialises in strategic communications, which garner results for Springboard’s clients.
What do you particularly value from your IoD membership?
As well as networking opportunities, IoD offer events, supports and materials that are tailored to the specific challenges faced by directors in Ireland. It’s a fantastic resource.
What is the one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?
Bravery. My motto is, “If you don’t ask, the answer is always a no.” I’m a firm believer that you will never get what you want if you don’t chase it, and it’s very easy to get trapped in your comfort zone. As a leader, you have to be brave, be ambitious, and chase your targets, even when failure is a possibility.
