July 2022
| |
Dear Anne,
I hope to see many of you at our upcoming IoD Ireland Summer Reception at the Airfield Estate in Dublin, which is one of the highlights of the IoD’s events' calendar. It is a wonderful opportunity for IoD members to socialise and network with their fellow members in a relaxed environment at the historical Airfield House and its beautiful garden. There are limited places available and once booked out, a cancellation list will be in operation. More information below.
It is fair to say that environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues are very much in sharp focus for directors and senior business leaders in recent times. I am delighted, then, to say that our hugely popular course, ‘Leading Sustainability: What Directors Need to Know and How to Do It’, is now available for booking. There are limited places available for our autumn 2022 edition (see below), which begins in September and runs through to November.
On the topic of ESG, Chapter Zero Ireland held its first event for members last week, featuring special guest Paschal Donohoe TD, Minister for Finance, and President of the Eurogroup. The Minister commented that the purpose of Chapter Zero Ireland “is to build a community of non-executive directors and equip them to lead discussions on the impacts of climate change." You can join Chapter Zero Ireland via the link below.
We have circulated to members our Director Sentiment Monitor survey covering the second quarter of 2022 and we would appreciate and value your input. If you have not yet completed the survey, there is a link below and it takes approximately four minutes to complete. Thank you.
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the Global Network of Director Institutions’ (GNDI) first 24-hour virtual global conference which takes place on 13th and 14th July – details below. The line-up features a fascinating range of speakers from around the world, including Carol Bolger CDir, Chair of An Post.
Wishing you all a very enjoyable summer.
Thora Mackey CDir
Chief Operating Officer

New Social and Environmental Reporting Rules for Large Companies
From 2024, large companies will need to publicly disclose information on the way they operate and manage social and environmental risks. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will make businesses more accountable by obliging them to disclose their impact on people and the planet. Gender Pay Gap Information Act 2021
The Gender Pay Gap Information Act 2021 requires organisations to report on their hourly gender pay gap across a range of metrics. Organisations with over 250 employees will be reporting on their Gender Pay Gap for the first time in 2022. Organisations were asked to select a ‘snapshot’ date in the month of June. Their reporting will be based on the employees they have on this date. Organisations have six months to prepare their calculations before reporting six months later, during December.
Digital Transition Fund
The Government has announced a new €85 million fund to help businesses go digital - no matter what stage they’re at, or what sector they’re in. The Digital Transition Fund has been allocated funding of €85 million during the period to 2026 as part of Ireland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) has been developed by the Government so that Ireland can access funding under the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility.
