IoD Members' Update - March 2019
As the days drift by and the uncertainty over Brexit continues to cast a shadow, the IoD has lined up an exciting series of events and workshops throughout the spring at which you can meet your fellow members and discuss the issues of the day.

In the climate in which we currently find ourselves, the importance of networking, exchanging ideas and continued professional development cannot be overstated. If you have not done so already, please consider attending the events and workshops listed below, and click through the link provided to see further events and activities on our website.

We would also like to give you the 'heads up' that, in the coming weeks, the IoD will be asking for your co-operation and input into our quarterly Director Sentiment Monitor members' survey.

Thanking you in advance and see you soon!

Video Catch-up
In our highlighted videos this month, Tony Smurfit , Smurfit Kappa Group, answers the question, 'What is your view of Brexit in respect to Irish businesses?' while
Corporate Governance expert, George Bartlett, discusses the top ten mistakes most commonly made by company directors.
Ray O’Connor is Chief Commercial Officer of 4site , the providers of innovative engineering solutions for major infrastructural developments in telecommunications

What qualities do you need to succeed in business?

There are three – the utmost integrity, emotional intelligence and an aptitude for listening. In the telecoms business, your reputation, ability to deliver and willingness to help clients find the right solution is key, as you will often find yourself working with that same client time and time again over the years.

What, in your opinion, makes a great leader?

Great leaders develop, embrace and build trusting relationships with a diverse range of individuals who all share a similar goal or purpose. Great leaders know this diversity means they are going to be challenged time and time again, and this will ultimately help them grow their own thinking and approach.

Gender Balance in Business Survey
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has asked the IoD if we would share a link to its Gender Balance in Business Survey , launched recently, to see if our members would like to take part.

The CSO plans to continue the data collection process until the end of April 2019 , with results published in May 2019.

This is the inaugural survey of a series that will, henceforth, be run on a biennial basis, and the CSO is anxious to raise the profile of the survey and ensure respondents and the business community are aware of its existence.

By clicking the following links, you can access the Frequently Asked Questions page and a dedicated information sheet .
