IoD Ireland Members' Update
March 2023
| |
Dear Anne,
Diversity is thought of as being a key component to a company’s overall effectiveness, so found recent IoD research. By making diversity a boardroom and leadership priority, directors and business leaders can harness the many performance benefits it brings. These include, greater levels of innovation, enhanced financial results and stronger Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. This is perhaps a worthwhile reminder as today is International Women's Day (IWD), which this year is focusing on the theme of embracing equity. To mark IWD, we were delighted to partner with the Charities Institute Ireland (CII) to host a special event on the gender pay gap on Friday, 3rd March at the offices of Beauchamps LLP. Further details can be found below.
I would like to extend my sympathy once again on the passing of Council Member Gary Kennedy on Monday, 13th February 2023. Gary had been a member of IoD Ireland for many years and a member of Council since 2019. Gary was a warm and generous colleague and on behalf of the Council, staff and members of IoD Ireland, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
This ezine’s issue also includes the latest events, director education programmes, exclusive content and benefits available to members, all outlined below. Finally, to note, IoD Ireland is currently recruiting for a number of new positions. Please feel free to pass this on to any colleagues or friends you think may be interested. All details can be found on our website.

Why Passwords Are Not Enough: The Power of Multi-Factor Authentication for Business Security | Blog
Read this blog by John Heerey, Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO), IT Force, an Ekco company.
John writes: 'The IoD Ireland Director Sentiment Monitor Q4 2022 showed, for example, that 41% of its surveyed members had experienced a data breach, with 46% of these breaches occurring over the past year.'
He continues: 'By requiring multiple factors of authentication, MFA can greatly enhance the security of a system, as it becomes more difficult for an attacker to gain unauthorised access, even if they obtain one of the factors.'
