IoD Members' Update -November 2019
One of the many highlights of the past month was undoubtedly the presentation made by Matt Ryan, Co-Founder and Director of the Press Up Entertainment Group, as part of our Breakfast and Evening Briefing series, kindly sponsored by Mazars. Fear not, if you missed a riveting talk, as you can access a webcast of this event exclusively in our Members' Area. We were also delighted to partner recently with McCann FitzGerald for the 'Gender Pay Gap Reporting - Getting It Right' event. The briefing presentation from this event, is also available in the Members' Area of our website .

We recently published our quarterly Director Sentiment Monitor for Q3, which attracted high profile media coverage upon publication, notably on the Brexit issue. More details on the findings can be found below.

Our events calendar continues to be popular, with our upcoming Lunch Bites @ the IoD event, kindly sponsored by IQ-EQ, with Bobby McDonagh, former Irish Ambassador to the UK and Italy, fully booked. The IoD's annual Christmas Lunch is almost booked out, so secure your place soon not to miss out. This year the Lunch is being kindly sponsored by Arkphire. All donations from the Christmas Lunch charity raffle will go to Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services. If you would like to donate a prize for the raffle, please contact Sharon Kirwan at or phone 01 411 0010.

On the near horizon, we have a number of exciting workshops in Dublin and Limerick, plus a fascinating IoD Evening Briefing entitled 'AI - Powering Change in Our Time', presented by Clare Dillon, Technology Evangelist, about which you can read more in our upcoming programme of events on the IoD website .
Chartered Director Programme: Extra Cohort
Due to exceptional demand, IoD Ireland has added an extra cohort of our popular Chartered Director Programme in early 2020.

The Programme normally has two commencement times in each calendar year, January and September, but demand is such that we've now added Cohort 61 , which will begin on 3rd February 2020.

The Chartered Director Programme is comprised of 11 class-based learning days, together with a one-day preparation session for the Certificate examination and a half-day preparation session for the Diploma examination - 12.5 learning days in total.

What is the most important business lesson that you have learned in your career to date?
While strategic direction is fundamental in a business, driving execution in an efficient and timely manner is key, and in order to do so, one must be focused, have tenacity, be consistent, persistent, be capable of embedding a systemised approach. Delivering organisational cultural changes, leading innovation, as well as having a strategy for engaging and retaining the right talent is a fundamental/essential requirement.

Why did you decide to join the IoD?
As we know, the IoD is the representative body for senior business professionals. It is a leading voice in the improvement of corporate governance standards and is dedicated to developing and improving the effectiveness and performance of directors on boards. That was my reason. It is an important resource for networking, and a source of general information, allowing one to keep up to date with a wide range of relevant information, legislation, etc.

The IoD Blog
Due to the unprecedented number of neglected donkeys in Ireland over the past number of years, The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland has had to refocus its traditional way of working and has recently introduced a Donkey Welfare Improvement Scheme, as an alternative to bringing donkeys into permanent residence at its farms. Part of the strategy prior to the implementation of this change was consideration of what might cause change resistance, and how this could be mitigated.

Noel Carton , Country Director of the Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, shares his insights in this blog .
