Dear Anne,
I hope this finds you well. At our recent IoD Ireland Autumn Lunch, An Post CEO, David McRedmond, commented on how being a director/leader is a privilege. He added that as leaders we all have a responsibility to ensure fairness for our staff, but also ensure we are providing an environment that allows for and does not stifle growth. As we head into the final quarter of 2022, this is an important thought that all leaders and directors should be reflecting on.
Last week, I was delighted to express my congratulations to all of those who received their Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction, part of the Chartered Director Programme, at our graduation event at the Thomas Prior Hall. This is a significant accomplishment and highlights the importance these leaders saw on progressing their own professional development. As our President Imelda Reynolds CDir reflected on the night, we are in a volatile and uncertain environment, and we hope that the Chartered Director Programme has given these participants the confidence and courage to make leading contributions to their boards and businesses into the future.
Member views and insights are extremely important to us here at the IoD. So, for this reason I would like to remind you that our current ESG survey is out in the field, ‘ESG Leadership Survey'. This research is being conducted in partnership with the Diligent Institute.
I am delighted to announce the launch of a new one-day workshop next month on the charity sector, at a special discounted price. This workshop titled, ‘Leadership and Governance for Charities in Ireland’, will be delivered by one of our most experienced course leaders, Marie Collins CDir, Chartered Director.

IoD Ireland Graduations
Business Leaders Awarded with Distinction in Certificates and Diplomas in Company Direction
On Thursday, 29th September 2022, IoD Ireland hosted its graduations ceremony for business leaders who successfully passed its Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction exams, which constitute part of the IoD’s gold standard Chartered Director Programme.
Special recognition was given to six graduates who had achieved over 80% in the Diploma exam. In addition, the IoD recognised a further 27 graduates for receiving a Distinction in both the Certificate and the Diploma in Company Direction exams. All of these graduates were also gifted with a certified native Irish broadleaf tree from the IoD, each of which will be planted and certified in the graduates’ names by Wolfgang Reforest in Co. Wicklow.

Important Changes to Corporate Restructuring Law
Our latest Director Factsheet, from McCann FitzGerald LLP, looks at The EU Directive on Preventive Restructuring Frameworks (the “Directive”), which precipitated a pan-European review by Member States of their corporate restructuring statutes. Ireland preserved its examinership regime, introduced over 30 years ago. Ministerial regulations - the European Union (Preventive Restructuring) Regulations 2022 (the “Regulations”) – have made the changes to that regime required to effect the first phase of a process designed to bring examinership in line with the Directive.

IoD Autumn Lunch 2022
The IoD Ireland Autumn Lunch was held on Friday, 23rd September 2022, at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, Dublin 4.
In his address, Guest Speaker David McRedmond, Chief Executive Officer, An Post, reflected on the work of An Post during the pandemic. In particular, he acknowledged the notable work of the frontline staff, who helped to serve local communities and helped keep the country open. Mr McRedmond also reflected on some of the key issues that all business leaders are now facing, including An Post, such as upcoming new trade regulations, Brexit, and changes in EU Customs.

Research Results: Director Sentiment Monitor Survey Q2 2022
Our latest IoD Ireland Director Sentiment Monitor (DSM) for Q2 2022 was published on 8th September. The new research reveals our members’ sentiment in relation to board skills, business confidence, succession planning, risk, the economy, the effect of the Government’s performance, and more. The report garnered considerable media coverage via outlets such as RTE's Morning Ireland, RTE.ie, Business Plus, and Women Mean Business.

Energy Measures and Supports for Business
The Government has already implemented a number of measures to help ease the impact of energy costs on enterprises. There are also a number of other Government supports and resources available to help mitigate the impact of these price rises on enterprises and to become more energy efficient, 'whether you are beginning your journey to sustainability or at an advanced stage'.
Enterprise Ireland: Europe’s Most Active Domestic VC Investor
A new report by PitchBook, a leading Venture Capital (VC) and Private Equity investment platform, has named Enterprise Ireland as Europe’s most active domestic VC investor by deal count. The report, which covers the period 2018 to H1 2022, showed that Enterprise Ireland had completed 988 investments over that period, the most in any European country.
Second Call Under €100m Brexit Response Scheme for Agri-Food Sector
The Government has launched the second call for applications under the Government’s €100m scheme for the agri-food sector. The Scheme, introduced by Government at the end of 2020, has been established in recognition of the sector’s unique exposure to the impact of Brexit and other global trading challenges. Up to €30m is available under this second call, which is being administered by Enterprise Ireland. It is open to large, medium and small enterprises, engaged in the processing and marketing of primary meat and dairy products. Companies can make enquiries to [email protected]. Eligible companies are invited to submit applications from Monday, 12th September, until the closing date on Friday, 11th November at 5.30pm.
