Bobby Kerr
is formerly co-owner and Chairman/CEO of Insomnia Coffee Company (which he exited from in 2018), Ireland's largest independent coffee chain. He is a presenter on 'Down to Business' the popular Newstalk radio business show on Saturdays. Best known in Ireland as a ‘Dragon’ on the Irish TV version of Dragons’ Den, Bobby is also a popular public speaker and business mentor. His business interests are in a variety of sectors, including food and hospitality, technology, hardware and exhibition.
Since joining the IoD, how have you benefitted from your membership?
I have participated in numerous business events and became a non-executive director of two companies as a result of my membership.
What is the most important business lesson that you have learned in your career to date?
It costs twice as much and takes twice as long. Never seems to change.
How do you think business leaders can best prepare for the future?
Stay current, travel and learn from what you see around you.

Chartered Director Training: Cohort 59
|
|
The IoD's
Chartered Director Programme
is a unique qualification for directors and strategic business leaders, combining learning and professional experience.
The Programme is comprised of 11 class-based learning days, together with a one-day preparation session for the Certificate examination and a half-day preparation session for the Diploma examination - 12.5 learning days in total.
The Chartered Director Programme has two commencement points in each calendar year, January and September, with up to eight cohorts per year.

The Central Bank publishes Financial Stability Note
The Central Bank has published a Financial Stability Note which examines the future of Global Financial Centres (GFC) after Brexit, from an EU perspective. The research presents a set of scenarios for the future of London and other financial centres in Europe after Brexit and finds the impact of fundamental factors on London could be very small. The potential dispersal of financial services to smaller centres like Dublin could have an impact on those centres. Read the

Diversity in the Boardroom 2019

In case you missed it, we recently published the
Diversity in the Boardroom 2019
report, which received considerable media coverage and positive engagement on social media.
All 3,000 IoD members were invited to take part in an online survey, with 381 members (60% male and 40% female) completing the survey, which equates to 13% of the membership. We would like to express our thanks to all who took part.
