With the formation of the next Government after General Election 2020 still inconclusive at a time when EU-UK trade negotiations are about to begin in earnest and the Covid-19 coronavirus is also impacting international trade, the prevailing level of uncertainty for the business community remains a challenge.
These, and other, factors were addressed by Economist, Jim Power, at a recent IoD Evening Briefing which received glowing feedback from all present. The IoD recorded Jim's insightful and engaging presentation and you will find a link to that webcast below.
It seems hard to believe given our recent weather, but we are edging ever closer to our annual Spring Lunch which, this year,
features one of the great leaders of Gaelic Football management, Jim Gavin.

Since joining the IoD, how have you benefitted from your membership?
I have benefitted immensely by routinely attending the breakfast and evening briefings. I have also benefitted by developing my skills through IoD training days, particularly on topics such as leadership and strategy.
What is the most important business lesson that you have learned in your career to date?
Not to be too hasty in decision making, sometimes it’s better to sleep on it and decide tomorrow.
What advice would you offer to new or aspiring directors in Ireland?
To always be open to networking and to connect with a business mentor to obtain a different perspective on your business strategy. Don’t be afraid of failure.
