Why Do You Walk?

Meet Gail McGaughy

2024 Optimism Walk Co-Chair.

As a physical therapist with On with Life, I have had the privilege of working with many people with Parkinson Disease. So, becoming this year's Optimism Walk Co-Chair was a no-brainer for me.

Why do I walk?

I walk for my stepfather with late-stage PD.

I walk for the 100’s of persons with PD that we have served and assisted in maintaining quality of life at On With Life.

I walk as the APDA Board Secretary.

Join On With Life PD Warriors and walk with ME! Help us raise funds for resources, classes, education and research. All funds raised stays in IOWA!

I walk because it MATTERS!

What is Gene Therapy and Can it Help People with Parkinson's

Gene therapy is a category of treatments that involve introducing DNA into cells in an effort to alter which proteins are created and thereby improve symptoms or even cure disease.

It is difficult to attempt gene therapy for diseases that involve more complicated DNA changes, such as Parkinson’s disease. Nevertheless, there has been much effort and some success in using gene therapy techniques to treat cancer, for example, a very complex disease which typically involves many genetic changes.
