PD NEWS: ADAPTIVE DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION

A new type of deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrode is commercially available that not only delivers electricity to the brain but can sense the brain’s electric signals as well. The sensed signals can then be used to optimize the electricity delivery, also known as adaptive DBS (aDBS).

A recent paper was published in Nature Medicine showing that aDBS improved symptoms over conventional DBS and paves the way for a new era in DBS that can help improve symptom control!

APDA congratulates Dr. Jill Ostrem (pictured here), one of the authors of this paper and a member of APDA’s Scientific Advisory Board.
