Habitat on the Hill

Our Executive Director, Ali Parrish and Jeff Finke, Director of External Relations attended Habitat on the Hill this week. While there they met with Reid Willis from Senator Chuck Grassley's office, Senator Joni Ernst, Congressman Zach Nunn, Connor Rabb from Representative Randy Feenstra's office, and Nicholas Bowser from Representative Ashley Hinson's office to ask for their support of vital housing and community development programs and policies like the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act.

Habitat on the Hill is Habitat's annual legislative conference and brings nearly 400 habitat staff members, board members, homeowners, resident leaders, volunteers and emerging leaders together to represent their communities; engage with each other; learn from experts in the housing field; and plan to advocate at the local, state and federal levels to enact policy solutions that advance home affordability.

Community Book Read Held at All In Grocers

Iowa Heartland Habitat along with House of Hope, Waterloo First United Methodist Church, Orchard Hill Church, and Impact Church of Hope are hosting a community book read of Toxic Charity by Bob Lupton to explore how we practice charity.

The Ms. Willie Mae Wright Community Center located in All In Grocers in the Walnut Neighborhood has been the perfect spot to host this discussion. They get to enjoy food from Grandma's Hands Restaurant while having deep discussion about the book.

If you missed the sign up for this 6 week book read - we will have more coming in the future! Stay tuned to Iowa Heartland Habitat's social media for more opportunities.

Construction Supervisors Volunteer Week

Erin Hagen, John Poon, and Lenny Parker, in charge of overseeing construction sites for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity, spent a week dedicating their time to various community organizations - The Salvation Army Waterloo Cedar Falls Iowa, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, and Americans for Independent Living.

Rather than their usual duty of leading volunteer groups at construction sites, they took on the role of volunteers themselves for a brief period, finding inspiration in the process.

We extend our gratitude to all the local non-profit organizations for their continuous efforts in serving others daily, and for the collaborative work we engage in as a community to enhance our impact within our neighborhoods.
