Remembering President Jimmy Carter

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity joins the world in mourning the death of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. A champion for affordable and decent housing, he and Rosalynn Carter donated their time and leadership each year to build and improve homes with Habitat around the world. President Carter died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 29, at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family.

“I think every human being has within himself or herself a desire to reach out to others and to share some of our blessings with those who are in need,” President Carter has said. “What’s opened up that avenue for me and my wife and hundreds and thousands of others is Habitat for Humanity. It makes it easy for us to reach out and work side by side with the homeowner who’s never had a decent house, perhaps. I haven’t been on a Habitat project that I wasn’t thrilled and inspired and wept.”

Over the last three decades, the Carter Work Project has touched lives around the world by inspiring more than 108,000 volunteers across the U.S. and in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair 4,447 Habitat homes. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has served more than 62 million people around the world.

Construction Site Supervisors Volunteer at House of Hope

Our construction site supervisors had the opportunity to volunteer at House of Hope. They spent the day organizing donations, moving furniture in the warehouse, and packing away Christmas decorations. We are so thankful for our partnership with House of Hope and the chance to give back to our wonderful community.

Winter Appliance Drive

Support our Winter Appliance Drive at the ReStore! We are looking for old appliances that are ready for a second life. By donating your used items, you are helping us build homes and hope in our community. Donate your fully functioning small or large appliances and we'll pick them up FREE of charge!

Appliances must be in working condition and free of debris. Sorry, we can't accept propane or vented gas appliances.

If you are interested in making a donation, you can email jmccollough@webuildhabitat.org to schedule your free pickup. Please note that pickups are usually scheduled two weeks out. If you would like to donate without the wait, you can drop off your appliance directly at the ReStore during operating hours.

Thank you for helping us make tomorrow brighter, one donation at a time.

Team Member with Heart

Donita’s role as the Partner Engagement Specialist is to support the homebuyers in our program, walk along the side of them as they complete our program, and be a support for them for up to two years after they move into their homes. She also oversees the volunteer side of our organization, helping with recruitment, building rapport, and making sure the volunteers have a good experience.

Donita loves to laugh and you may find it difficult not to laugh with her! Donita also loves to travel, read, and spend time with the people that she loves.
