Regular Construction Volunteers Appreciation Dinner

Each year, we hold an appreciation event for our regular construction volunteers - these volunteers are an extension of our staff as they work with us several days on a weekly basis.

In fact, since 2017 - 5,787 volunteer shifts were worked by these regular volunteers for a total of 36,968 hours! That has saved Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity over 1 million dollars on labor and helped to serve 73 families in our community with an affordable home solution.

At the appreciation event we give out a Legacy Award, recognizing long-term commitment to the organization. Our Legacy Award winners are reliable, generous, and go above and beyond to serve our community. Congratulations to our 2024 winners - Nick Halverson and Lloyd Dove!

Without the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity would not be able to carry out its mission. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all of our volunteers!

ReStore Volunteer of the Month

Women Build 2024

Over the next 6 months, over 250 Women Build volunteers will build 2 entire houses with our special Iowa Heartland Habitat families in Waterloo. As a kick-off to this exciting event - all the volunteer teams and supporters gathered at the Women Build Breakfast to celebrate the $100,000 we have raised and prepare for the work ahead of us.

At the breakfast, volunteer teams wrote a song or cheer about their specific volunteer mission or task and recorded it for us! Take a look at this incredible team spirit as we prepare for our first build day this week and stay tuned for more inspiring content that will come while we work to build the first ever memory bank of a home build from start to finish - a collection of volunteer and homebuyer photos, videos and well wishes along with build progress photos and videos and more!

Board Member with Heart

Wayne Green brings dedication and heart to his role as Board Member for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity. He attends meetings, shares ideas, and spreads the organization's mission throughout the Waverly community. Whenever possible, Wayne lends a hand at builds, fundraisers, open houses, and home dedications.

What brings Wayne joy is being involved in such a worthwhile organization. A memorable moment was a home dedication where the homebuyer mentioned him by name, recognizing the time he volunteered on her home. It meant a lot to Wayne to connect with a family he had directly impacted.

Wayne's favorite saying is "Kindness Matters." He believes the world would be transformed if everyone embraced and lived by those two simple words. He appreciates the super dedicated staff at Iowa Heartland Habitat who make the organization's work possible.

Outside of his Iowa Heartland Habitat role, Wayne finds fulfillment in nature through hiking, canoeing, and spending time outdoors. He also cherishes quality time with his grandchildren.

           DONATE TODAY

Thanks to you, our donors, Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity positively impacts the economy of our entire community.

As we invest your donations, those dollars ripple across Iowa’s Heartland. And your donation increases sometimes as much as 64% as we put it to work building homes and resilient neighborhoods in Black Hawk, Butler, Bremer, and Buchanan counties.

For every dollar invested by Iowa Heartland Habitat in 2022, $1.64 was injected into our local economy!

We are committed to building, rehabbing and repairing housing to facilitate pride in ownership on a household scale. And we recognize the need for partners and a coordinated strategy with residents, organizations, local officials, and businesses to restore stability on a neighborhood scale, because everyone deserves a decent place to live.

Thank you. Every dollar counts!
